title: Docs MCP server
description: Search and read the Cargo Marshal docs from an AI agent over the Model Context Protocol, with no account or key.
---

The docs MCP server lets an AI agent search and read these docs. Use it when you want Claude Code, Cursor, or another MCP client to answer questions about load planning, axle loads, or the API from the current pages instead of from memory.

It serves the documentation only. It is not a product API: it cannot read or change your Projects, Load Plans, or cargo. To work with your data, use the [persistence API](/overview/persistence-api).

## Endpoint

```text
https://docs.cargomarshal.com/mcp
```

The server speaks streamable HTTP and needs no authentication. Every tool is read only.

## Tools

| Tool          | What it does                                                                      |
| ------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| `search_docs` | Full-text search. Returns matching pages with title, route, and an excerpt. |
| `get_page`    | Returns one page as Markdown. Pass a route from `search_docs` or `list_pages`.    |
| `list_pages` | Lists every page with its route, title, and description. Narrow it with `locale`. |

Search first, then read the pages that match. Pass `locale` (`en` or `de`) to limit results to one language.

## Add it to your client

In Claude Code:

```bash
claude mcp add --transport http cargo-marshal-docs https://docs.cargomarshal.com/mcp
```

In a client that reads a JSON config, add a remote server entry. The exact key names depend on the client:

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "cargo-marshal-docs": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://docs.cargomarshal.com/mcp"
    }
  }
}
```

Open the endpoint in a browser and you get `405 Method Not Allowed`. The server answers MCP requests only, so point a client at it instead.
